Will Hangover Part II Flop?

Uh oh... did one of us shit the bed?

Recently we did a poll on Facebook asking everyone what remaining films of the 2011 summer season are they looking forward to the most. The Hangover Part II led all others including big finales like Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Dark of the Moon. The film debuts tomorrow and reviews are starting to pour in and so far it isn't pretty. On Rotten Tomatoes Hangover Part II has a 32% with 9 positive reviews and 17 negative. Now obviously more will pile in later today as it's a big release but does this worry anyone? Here are a few captions from the "Top Critics" Rotten Tomatoes lists on their page.

Remembering the Macho Man

My thoughts on the Legend no scratch the IMO the GREATEST WRESTLER OF ALL TIME.

The year was 1991 I had just started wrestling and my first ever exposure was to The Macho King. This was a time when Randy Savage was a heel and jobbers would carry him in a carriage while he sat on a throne with crown and scepter. At that time he was feuding with the Ultimate Warrior. Savage was trying to persuade Warrior at the time to give him a shot at the WWF title but the Warrior had refused him with Savage then sweared revenge. Later I would see Savage mercilessly beat Warrior who was set to wrestling Sgt. Slaughter and eventually lose the title to at Survivor Series. And would go all the way to Wrestlemania VII where Warrior probably had his best match ever would at the time "retire" the Macho Man from wrestling.

Then he had started doing commentary with Vince McMahon and listening to him talk kept me endlessly entertained and was finally hooked on watching wrestling and a follower of Macho Madness OOOOOOOHHHHHH YEEEEAAAAH.

One of my personal favorite matches of all time was his match in WCW against one of my favorite WCW wrestlers in DDP-Diamond Dallas Page in a falls count anywhere match at the Great American Bash 1997. This match had the two of the fight up and down the isle into the crowd and all over the arena just beating the crap out of each other. That feud Savage had with DDP for that time DDP has stated made DDP what he was and became.

However I will never forget when i finally saw it and neither will any wrestling fan or today's inspired wrestlers his match against Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania III at the Pontiac Silverdome. This match showcased 19 near falls and would go on to inspire greats into the business such as Booker T. This match amongst many is considered the greatest match ever if not the greatest match ever at Wrestlemania. This match was MOTY by both PWI and the Wrestling Observer.

Savage part of a wrestling family of Angelo Poffo and got hios start in Georgia Championship Wrestling in 1973 and got the name Randy Savage from then booker Ole Anderson(one of the original 4 horseman). He would go on to wrestle for the next 31 years ending in 2005 in TNA where he had been feuding with Jeff Jarret and was scheduled to win the NWA Title from him at Final Resolution but Savage didn't like the finish and walked away.

Randy Savage would also do various movies. But most notably being Bone Saw Mcgraw in Spider-Man(2002). He would give us a Rap album which has one of the most notable songs "Be a Man"(2003).

Continuously entertaining fans of wrestling and other media loved the Macho Man and he will be missed. The way I see it in the end..... and to quote my brother "They're not raindrops, they're tears; The Macho Man has God in a submission hold." I hope he is in a better place and dropping the Elbow on cloud nine now.

So Hulkamania its ok but I am and forever will be a follower of the Madness thank you Randy Savage I will never forget you OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH YEEEEEAAAAHHHHHH DIG IT.

(Below is a video package on Randy Savage)

Thor: Easter Eggs Odin's Treasure Room and What you may have missed

So I been meaning to do another one of these article but it kind of slipping my mind. Not to mention stuff that you may have actually missed. Now on to Thor and in normal Marvel movie continuity they love their little easter eggs and throwing them into their moves. And besides the casket of Ancient Winters their were other Marvel Universe relics inside Odin's Treasure Room.

Photobucket

The Eternal Flame - Mystical flame that cannot be extinguished. It was stolen from Surtur by Odin, Vili(brother to Odin), and Ve Borson(also brother to Odin) at the dawn of time so that Surtur could not light his sword and bring about Ragnarok.

The Infinity Gauntlet - The Infinity Gauntlet was designed to hold six of the 'soul gems', better known as the Infinity Gems. The Infinity Gems consist of Space, Time, Power, Reality, The Soul, and The Mind. When used in combination their already impressive powers made the wearer God-Like. It was gathered by the mad Titan Thanos(my personal favorite character in all of comics) as he took the gems from the Elders of the Universe that had originally carried them.

The Warlock's Eye - A powerful, mystical weapon used unsuccessfully against Odin, Thor and the Warriors Three during an invasion of Asgard.

Orb of Agamotto -
A scrying crystal ball used by Doctor Strange for clairvoyance. It has been known to open gateways between dimensions.

Tablet of Life & Time - On the tablet was a biochemical formula for a serum, the so-called Lifeline Formula, which could rejuvinate, heal and grant its user the chance to reach the full evolutionary potential of its race turning the user into an immortal near omnipotent being.

Not pictured but in comics is also in Odin's treasure room.

Twighlight Sword - Also known as the Sword of Doom, the Twilight Sword is a powerful weapon wielded by Surtur.

The Top 8 Reasons Drew Carey is better than Bob Barker

That is no typo, kiddies.  I have always liked Drew Carey and the way he has grown into a terrific host of The Price is Right in such a short time is astonishing.  It hit me a few months ago that not only am I impressed with his progress but he is in fact much better than Bob Barker.  And here are the top 8 reasons why:

Worn Out Welcomes: Nicolas Cage, Part II

Greetings, readers.  I apologize for the delay between parts I and II of this particular Worn Out Welcome but I've been quite busy as of late.  Between the last Overrated, the 3DS launch, The Chinlock and having to make money at my day job some things had to be moved to the back burner.  I also had to take some time to rewatch some of his more forgettable films.  Not to worry, nothing has changed between then and now.  Nic Cage still sucks.

Worn Out Welcomes: Nicolas Cage, Part I

What can be said about Nicolas Cage?  He owes more money in back taxes than anyone reading this will ever see in their lifetime.  He also named his kid Kal-El after Superman.  So in short he's an asshole.

Nicolas Cage was born Nicholas Coppola and is in fact the nephew of Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola.  Cage changed his name so as not to be accused of riding his family's coattails.  Sadly its the most admirable accomplishment in his career.  I've never liked his work, even when he was supposed to be good (The Weather Man) or winning an Oscar (Leaving Las Vegas).  His portrayal of the same manic characters combined with his inability to say no have completely destroyed his career.  As always I will be chronicling performances that he has given in movies that I have seen.  And for some reason I've seen a lot of Nic Cage movies.

The Top 8 Boxing Films Of All Time

Boxing as a sport has lost a lot of popularity in the United States over the past decade.  Be it due to the boom of mixed martial arts, the lack of a dominant heavyweight champion or pay-per-view prices casual fans have tuned out.  With this year's The Fighter however, fans have proved that while the sport's popularity is declining the love for a good boxing film still exists.  So what makes a great boxing film?  In this Top 8 we take a look at the best boxing films ever.

Worn Out Welcomes: Kate Hudson

In this edition of Worn Out Welcomes we take a look at an actress who started off very strong.  Surely the daughter of Goldie Hawn would be looking to avoid comparisons to her mother and be viewed as a serious actress.  My first exposure to Kate Hudson was in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous in 2000.  She played Penny Lane, the leader of a gaggle of groupies who falls in love with rock singer Russell Hammond (Billy Crudup) while developing a kinship with a high school age music journalist (Patrick Fugit).  Hudson’s Penny is one of fun, love, sadness and loss.  I was hopeful that this young, new talent would keep up the great performances and script selection.  Boy howdy was I wrong.  It was all downhill after that.

Hands On Impressions: Marvel vs Capcom 3

The gang here at Digital Daily Fix got a lucky treat last night as we got a little hands on time with the next big title of 2011, Marvel vs Capcom 3! We got to experience the whole roster (minus the DLC characters) and went at it in a few versus matches.

The game plays a lot more like Tatsunoko vs Capcom in that you have 4 attack buttons. Light, Medium, Heavy, and Special. We got to mess around with the game via both controller and arcade stick. The special button works as a quick launcher and can also be used to do a team juggle rather easily in the air. Tagging now comes from holding a single button. On a controller configuration each partner is designated to a bumper or L1 & R1. controls are smooth and quick and no character so far seems TOO overpowered though we didn't really dive into that too much. Unlocking things in the game comes pretty easily just by playing the game itself. You can go through the story mode to try and unlock them or just by going at it with friends for a while you will unlock quite a bit.

The few things I did notice about some of the character balancing seems like Capcom didn't want to make anyone too broken. Female characters that are quite powerful like Phoenix and X-23 are balanced by having low health, while characters known to be overpowered from previous installments (like sentinel) seem to have their range cut down or moves adjusted slightly. Overall we had a real blast experiencing this game.

This is just a taste of our outlook to the game. Expect an audio review for Marvel vs Capcom 3 next week!

Final Thoughts: Dead Space 2

I've had the opportunity to finish Dead Space 2 and I must say it is already a contender for Game of the Year, in my opinion. The first few months of the year each have pretty big releases, and Dead Space 2 has certainly got me excited for the other titles. If Dead Space 2 is any indication of the gaming year, then it is definitely time to rejoice! Anyway, I'm sure myself, Smitty, and El Capitano will be talking all of these games closer to their release dates (MvC3 most definitely), so let's move on with Dead Space 2.

Worn Out Welcomes: Tim Burton

Have you ever been to a wedding, funeral, or Bar Mitzvah where one guest is completely unbearable?  At first you think 'Hey this guy is kind of funny' or 'I love how quirky this girl is.'  Then after 10 minutes you realize that the funny guy only has one joke or the quirky girl is just unbearably weird.  The rest of the event becomes an awkward Pac-Man like dash in which you try to keep this annoyance from splitting your head in half.  Hollywood is full of these people and I have taken it upon myself to expose the one trick ponies as I see them.  This week we take a look at director Tim Burton.  Once viewed as a fresh and bold maverick Tim Burton has worn out his welcome.

The first film I saw of Burton’s was Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.  As a fan of the show I thought the movie was great.  It really expanded on Pee Wee’s world, the jokes were spot on and the dark scenes (everyone remembers Large Marge) made for a nice change of pace, causing the audience to care about Pee Wee making it back to his comfort zone of bright lights and never ending cheer.  Burton has gone on to make two good films (Beetlejuice, Big Fish) and one great film (Ed Wood).  The rest of his filmography might has been self cannibalized to the point it is tough to differentiate which film is which.

·         Batman:  This movie sucks.  In fact it sucks so much I already wrote an article about it.  Check out ‘Overrated’ for more information.

·         Edward Scissorhands:  This film kicks off Burton’s theme of ‘Everyone who follows social norms is a great big dick hole.’  Very similar to most Stephen King novels, except Burton dresses all of his protagonists like teenagers listening to The Cure.

·         Batman Returns:  Christopher Walken and Michelle Pfeiffer are awesome despite Burton’s attempt to sap all energy from Gotham City and its residents.  The fact that Tim Burton has admittedly never opened a comic book really shows as this film is gray, drab and overall adventure free.  *Fun fact:  Andrew Bryniarski, who played Max Shreck’s son Chip also played Zangief in the 1994 Street Fighter movie.*

·         Mars Attacks:  A disappointing spoof of 50’s alien invasion movies.  There are some fun performances from Pierce Brosnan and Michael J. Fox but to once again waste the talents of Jack Nicholson is unforgivable.

·         Sleepy Hollow:  This was the point where I REALLY started to sour on the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp combination.  Depp is directed to play Ichabod Crane as being dark and weird for the sake of being dark and weird.  The set designs in this movie are so uninteresting and bland I was lulled to sleep the first time I tried to watch it.  This movie reminded me so much of Batman Returns that I had to watch that one again to make sure they weren't the same film.

·         Planet of the Apes:  Even the most die hard Burton fans have abandoned this cinematic abortion.  How Mark Wahlberg was able to survive this and The Happening is beyond me.  This abysmal remake has none of the wonder, fun, or intelligence of the classic.  Burton also manages to cripple Tim Roth, Paul Giamatti, and Helena Bonham Carter with this insipid script.

·         Charlie and the Chocolate Factory:  I really thought this would be the last collaboration between Burton and Depp.  The fact that Depp portrayed Wonka as a reclusive pedophile was bad enough.  However Burton makes it worse by not making any of the kids likable in the slightest.  None of these characters can be related to because they are so flat and one dimensional.  All of the characters in this movie are assholes except for the poor, weird outcast.  Catching onto any repeating themes yet?

·         Corpse Bride:  Corpse Bride features some great animation but this screenplay feels like a rejected script for The Nightmare Before Christmas.  This may have worked as a 20 minute short but there is no money in making shorts.  The character designs, backgrounds and score also feel like things that didn't make the final cut of Nightmare.  Another example of Burton recycling his own work for profit.

·         Sweeney Todd:  The Demon Barber of Fleet Street:  In a shocking turn, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are cast in a Tim Burton movie playing weird, unlikeable characters with white makeup, black clothing and bad hair.  I’m so sick of this trio I could vomit.  The only highlight of this film is that the criminally underrated Alan Rickman got to collect a pay check.

·         Alice in Wonderland:  Like in Batman and Batman Returns Tim Burton manages to suck all of the joy from Wonderland of all places.  This film commits many crimes against the Lewis Carroll classics but the most offensive one:  it’s BORING!  As I was watching this on cable I found myself flipping through my menus praying for a rerun of Jersey Shore or 16 & Pregnant.  Sadly I found none.

·         It has just come to my attention that Tim Burton is currently in pre-production for a Dark Shadows movie.  For those of you not familiar with the show Dark Shadows was a soap opera that ran from 1966-1971 featuring vampires, werewolves and other creatures of myth.  Take a guess as to who will be playing vampire Barnabas Collins.

The biggest issue that I have with Tim Burton is that he has painted himself into this corner.  Actors often fall to typecasting when audiences are unable to believe an image change.  Directors are typecast when they take on similar projects over and over again.  Sometimes it's great (Martin Scorsese) and sometimes it's horrendous (Uwe Boll).  When he is willing to try a different approach the results have been quite good (Big Fish) but it hasn't been enough.  Stop trying to make 'Tim Burton' films and just focus on making good films.  Your legacy will thank you for it.

Dead Space 2: The First Hour & Multiplayer *Now with VIDEO!*

I've just finished my first delve into the freakishly grotesque world of EA and Visceral Game's Dead Space 2. And I must say: I am terrified, yet very pleased.

There are a lot of great reviews out there, and as of writing this Gamerankings.com has this game listed as a 90% based on 25 reviews from varying sources. Seems like the general consensus is that this game rocks pretty hard, and I agree. I want to take a moment and point out a few things that have caught my eye in the first hour of gameplay, as well as talk a bit about a newcomer to the Dead Space franchise: Multiplayer. I will of course give more thoughts upon the game's completion.

These games are totally worth your $1

The Xbox Live Marketplace is a great tool used by game developers to get their games out faster and more effectively to players. It extended the life of games with DLC, and gives us old school games that may have never seen the light of day again. Another great thing about the Marketplace is that it allows indie developers to get their ideas out there and test the waters with new or modified ideas without the backing of big-name game companies. Some of these games are as low as 80 MS, or $1.00! I want to take some time to review and showcase three gems out currently in the indie section of the Marketplace that are all one dollar.

These games are Sketchy Tower Defense, Epic Dungeon, and Breath of Death VII.

This is literally the most metal thing I've ever seen.

I know we usually don't cover music 'round these parts, but I couldn't help but post on this: A cruise featuring some of the biggest names in Death/Black/Symphonic Metal.

Dead Space 2 Demo. *EDIT*

I've finally had a chance to complete the Dead Space 2 demo, so I wanted to give a little insight on EA's and Visceral Game's next big release.

*UPDATE* I saw this viral video while surfin' the web. What a great campaign! However, I'm pretty sure my mom would think Dead Space is pretty awesome.

Anyway, on with the demo!

Thor likes to talk smack. I don't blame him.

I think it's pretty fair to say that most gamers are highly anticipating the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 next month. With THOR the movie coming out soon too it's safe to say that the character is getting a lil' bit of attention. I was told of this video by a friend, and feel it's quite worth sharing. This is a taunt in MvC3 featuring the long-winded Thor. It's actually quite accurate to the character: When Thor is about to hit you, he definitely wants you to know about the strike, how much it's going to hurt, what the name of his hammer is, about his family lineage, what he had for lunch, etc., etc..

Dead Space Retrospective: Looking to the Future of Dismemberment

On January 25th, EA and Visceral Games will bestow onto the unwashed masses one of the first major game releases of the year: Dead Space 2. It promises even more Necromorph de-limbification, anti-gravity floating, and mining tool-toting than their first gory entry into the action-survival/horror genre.

They're BABIES!

Let's take a little look back at the beginning of the series...

The Tale of The Blinding Gaze: A Look at DC Universe Online

Meet The Blinding Gaze (yeah I know.. shitty name..) My character for DC Universe Online. After checking out footage and feedback on the game I decided I would give it a shot. This is not a review so much as it will be ongoing coverage of my journey into the world Sony Online Entertainment has created for a DC MMO. I will also be creating a villain so there is certainly a chance that I will have an ongoing series for him, but right now the focus is on this guy. So first off lets start with the story for this game!
