The gang here at Digital Daily Fix got a lucky treat last night as we got a little hands on time with the next big title of 2011, Marvel vs Capcom 3! We got to experience the whole roster (minus the DLC characters) and went at it in a few versus matches.
The game plays a lot more like Tatsunoko vs Capcom in that you have 4 attack buttons. Light, Medium, Heavy, and Special. We got to mess around with the game via both controller and arcade stick. The special button works as a quick launcher and can also be used to do a team juggle rather easily in the air. Tagging now comes from holding a single button. On a controller configuration each partner is designated to a bumper or L1 & R1. controls are smooth and quick and no character so far seems TOO overpowered though we didn't really dive into that too much. Unlocking things in the game comes pretty easily just by playing the game itself. You can go through the story mode to try and unlock them or just by going at it with friends for a while you will unlock quite a bit.
The few things I did notice about some of the character balancing seems like Capcom didn't want to make anyone too broken. Female characters that are quite powerful like Phoenix and X-23 are balanced by having low health, while characters known to be overpowered from previous installments (like sentinel) seem to have their range cut down or moves adjusted slightly. Overall we had a real blast experiencing this game.
This is just a taste of our outlook to the game. Expect an audio review for Marvel vs Capcom 3 next week!
