In most cases of films shown at the Sundance Film Festival, the point of most of the films there is to get a distributor. They don't have big budgets, they are not backed by a huge company, so they hope the story, and talent on screen carry it to a nationwide/worldwide distribution from a major company.
NOT KEVIN SMITH! Hell No! Fuck Distributors! Smith is going out with his newest film Red State and sharing it with the masses through a roadshow before releasing it through his own company on October 19th. For those of you that don't know Red State is Kevin Smith's horror film based on a small midwest down that take fundamentalism to the extreme. It has a real lower budget, drive-in movie feel that looks interesting.
That wasn't the only announcement Smith had made though. Smith is also working on a film titled Hit Somebody, based on a ballad by Warren Zevon. Once this film is finished, Mr. Smith says he will be finished with directing and will focus on his company Smodcast Pictures, and helping aspiring film makers get their movies shown to the masses. It's definitely an appropriate way to end out his career by helping those who are trying to start out their career in a similar fashion as he did many years ago.
In Closing, the Red State trailer, if you haven't seen it yet!
