PSP2: The more info that leaks, the more expensive it sounds.

Sony is expected to unveil the PSP2 this week (January 27th apparently) and the closer we get the more info that seems to leak out. Today is no different as a Japanese Newspaper has let loose on 2 very interesting features for the system. The first being that the system will come packed with 3G capability for online gaming.

What exactly does that mean? For the US, nothing quite yet. Speculation can lead to two things, it will have a cell phone provider to offer 3G at a monthly rate, or it will work like Amazon's Kindle, and offer 3G at no extra cost to you (though coverage could be spotty depending on who's towers they would be able to use). This would make the PSP2 the only handheld on the market to truly offer online gaming anywhere.

The 2nd big reveal pertains to the system's screen. The system will have an OLED screen which will provide it with some of the clearest and most crisp looking visuals in a portable device. The screen is also reported to be touch, though the whole functionality for it is unknown at this point. This all sounds well and good, and is shaping the system up to be a juggernaut of a handheld, but power isn't the most important thing for gaming on the go. Battery Life, game titles, overheating, all more important. Sony is looking to make the PSP2 like a portable PS3 in a sense. Taking all specs previously expected in a handheld and blowing out of the water is good, just make sure it's not a 2-4 hour battery life  or else it's gonna tank. It will be near impossible for anyone to take out Nintendo as the top portable system but I don't think that's the point anymore. I guess we shall see on Thursday (and we will be sure to have all details from this reveal as soon as they are available.
