So have you looked at the list of titles for the Wii for the rest of the year? Go ahead and do that real quick.
Done? OK then, did you notice the lack of big first party titles? You did? Well there is a trend to that. Nintendo has had a knack for cutting off first party development near the announcement of that system's successor. Not to mention the rumors of a Wii price drop to $150 in May. Does that mean Nintendo is ready to announce their next home console? If rumors are to be believed, then yes.
Nintendo is set to debut their next console at this year's E3, setting it up for a 2012 release and the system is said to be more powerful then anything currently out on the market. This story first broke via Game Informer and also reported on by Kotaku. Nintendo isn't denying anything, only responding to questions with the typical "Nintendo does not respond to rumors or speculation".
Nintendo is apparently taking a new approach with this system, already showing it to developers to allow them plenty of time to work with the device to support it with titles. Nintendo has been determined to change it's strained relationships with developers and prove that your titles don't have to be made by Nintendo in order to sell on their systems. The console is said to not be filled with any new gimmicks and is a serious leap forward for the company to re-establish itself as a company to support all games and not a niche market.
