Capcom takes another crack at multiplayer Resident Evil in Operation Racoon City,

Every play Resident Evil: Outbreak? Miss it? Well, you may get another opportunity at playing an Online Survival Horror game other than Left4Dead with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Taking place in 1998, the year of the original outbreak, RE:ORC pits four new survivors against the horrors that have gained hold in Raccoon City. According to IGN.com, players will have the opportunity to meet... and kill... characters from the RE Universe. Also, new zombie mechanics (Yay! Zombies again!) include multiple ways of detection: Sound, sight, and smell. Very interesting. I better not soil myself, then. Experience Points are gained from each zombie kill, which can be spent on weapons and upgrades.

As a big fan of the series, I am excited at the prospect of a fully-multiplayer RE game on current-gen consoles. Outbreak was a bold move for it's time. It was one of the few games that took advantage of the PS2's original Ethernet adapter, and Capcom tried to make it stand out from the rest of the Survival Horror genre. I think that given the ever-increasing ease of multiplayer connectivity along with having something to build on will make for a solid entry in the Resident Evil library. The only concern I have is the potential for characters moving like tanks.

Playing RE5 with a friend was certainly enjoyable. Being able to do it with four people against actual zombies in the early days of the Resident Evil Mythos will make for a romping-good time. Also, Tyrants.

We here at DDF will definitely have more on this title as news is divulged!
