Weekend Box Office April 8th - April 10th

The Weekend Box Office is gonna become a big deal in a few weeks when the Fantasy Movie League begins, till then it's just seeing what is doing well and what is bombing. We got one debut from last week still holding strong, some newcomers putting up good numbers and one debut that has completely tanked. Without further delay let's do it.

  1. Hop: $21.6 Million, with $68.2 Million Overall
  2. Arthur: $12.6 Million *OPENING WEEKEND*
  3. Hanna: $12.3 Million *OPENING WEEKEND*
  4. Soul Surfer: $11.1 Million *OPENING WEEKEND*
  5. Insidious: $9.7 Million, with $27 Million Overall
  6. Your Highness: $9.5 Million *OPENING WEEKEND*
  7. Source Code: $9 Million, with $28.6 Million Overall
  8. Limitless: $5.6 Million, with $64.3 Million Overall
  9. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules: $4.8 Million, with $45.4 Million Overall
  10. The Lincoln Lawyer: $4.6 Million, with $46.4 Million Overall

Some surprises here in the top of the box office this week. Critical opinions must have helped Hanna as well as the action oriented trailers as it broke into the top 3 and was extremely close to being No. 2. Nothing was catching Hop though as it  almost doubled what 2nd and 3rd place did. Your Highness TANKED debuting in 6th and with 2 big films debuting this week there isn't much hope for it to make up any ground. Also what happened to Source Code? with positive reviews I would not have expected it to drop over 50% from last week like it has.

Anyway this weekend sees two big debuts to the theaters for adults and kids. Scream 4 is the next chapter in the slasher series that can't be any worse then Scream 3. It's a copy cat killer that is mimicing the murders from the first film based on the film... yeah. Rio is about BIRDS! It's the latest Dreamworks film about Blu, a domesticated Macaw that gets captured in Rio and must do his best to escape. This will probably be the weekend Hop drops from the top (heh.. that rhymed) as a new kids flick is in town and Scream has been advertised like crazy.
