Weekend Box Office April 22nd - 24th

In a weekend where many of the new releases were not heavily advertised (so much so that I said last week there were none) the No. 1 spot looks no different with a few films sprouting up to debut in the top 10. So lets get into it.

  1. Rio: $26.8 Million, with $81.3 Million Overall
  2. Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family: $25.8 Million *OPENING WEEKEND*
  3. Water for Elephants: $17.5 Million *OPENING WEEKEND*
  4. Hop: $12.5 Million, with $100.8 Million Overall
  5. Scream 4: $7.2 Million, with $31.2 Million Overall
  6. African Cats: $6.4 Million *OPENING WEEKEND*
  7. Soul Surfer: $5.6 Million, with $28.7 Million Overall
  8. Insidious: $5.4 Million, with $44.2 Million Overall
  9. Hanna: $5.3 Million, with $31.7 Million Overall
  10. Source Code: $5.1 Million, with $44.7 Million Overall

It's really not surprising to see family films doing strong over a holiday weekend and Rio is doing big business, though how well it will hold up next week remains to be seen. Overall a good weekend for the box office with the top 4 movies all over $10 million. Next week we get Fast Five, the next film in the Fast and Furious franchise, Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs Evil is the sequel to Hoodwinked where Red Riding Hood and her team return to investigate the kidnapping of Hansel and Grendel. Finally we Dylan Dog: Dead of Night where Brandon Routh stars as Dylan Dog, the appointed human detective of the undead. See you next week!
