Alice looks to chop you up in Alice: Madness Returns.

A gameplay trailer has appeared for the sequel to the 2000 cult-hit American McGee's Alice. In this incarnation, set years after the events of Lewis Carol's Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, Wonderland is a dark, macabre place that has been twisted by Alice's ever-increasing loss of reality due to her family dying in a fire. Committed to an insane asylum, she is sucked back into Wonderland and has to fight her way through twisted visages of the Red Queen and the Jabberwocky.

I think this game is shaping up to be a real sleeper hit. The world of Wonderland looks great. The character design fits well with the dark theme. The combat looks satisfying, with different weapons and combos available to Alice. The dark, twisted story has my interest piqued. All in all, it's shaping up to be a solid sequel to what is in my opinion, having played the first game, one of the better adaptations of Carol's classic stories: Much better than what a certain director (Who has become quite... worn out) has come up with, that's for sure.

Look for it on Xbox360, PS3, and PC June 14, 2011.
