If you're like me then you have been a fan of wrestling for a long time. Myself I have been a fan for 20 years. Ive seen the years of Hulk Hogan, WCW, ECW, The Attitude Era, and now the PG Era. I've sat through the great times and now the times that almost make me want to stop watching. Every now and then comes a segment, or a match, or a wrestler that catches my attention and gets me in a bit. The WWE is still around, now focusing on younger "Superstars" to push their company ahead. Some of them are really great and charismatic, good in the ring and you can tell they will be the fun ones to watch. Others you just wish would go away, like TNA (I won't even get started there). Though this past Monday on RAW all the efforts put forth by the WWE to push it's young stars and start a new generation were shoved directly up the company's candy ass.
That is the night the show closed on the reveal of the host for Wrestlemania 27. The Rock was revealed and given almost 30 minutes to tell us why he was back. In that promo he told us how much we appreciated the fans, how he loved their passion and because of them he was back. He also told us how the Miz (the current WWE Champion) sucks, and how John Cena (the Austin/Rock if this era) is pretty much a joke. The two top men in the company slapped in the face. A sold out crowd that was earlier in a 50/50 split of love and hate for Cena, now unanimously boo him and why? Because in one sentence the Rock pretty much told us to. The man has not been in a wrestling ring for 7 years and in one night he can make any fan of the current product look at it and go "shit... these guys suck". Now as a "mark" I've had my criticisms of the current era, there isn't much that truly gets me excited to be a wrestling fan.
Though in that 30 minute span I was back to how I was in high school and middle school. Grinning from ear to ear with excitement and ready for Wrestlemania. I watch the PPV every year and there will always be something that has my interest but never anything that makes me go "I GOTTA SEE THIS!" my excitement is contained to a mid level because I know it will be WWE's best show. This year I can't WAIT for Wrestlemania. The Rock hosting, the potential for a refresh of those good times and just overall an entertaining show from beginning to end. Does this mean we will see Rock vs Cena? I don't know, I am not quick to say yes or no but I know its what the WWE wants and I would love it.
What about you?
