Remember 2007? A little game called Crackdown was coming out and no one gave a damn. That is until Microsoft said "Hey... Halo 3 Multiplayer demo is coming with the game" and the gaming community threw their arms into the air in NERD RAGE! Why the hell do we have to buy some shit game to get our beloved demo? Then the game came out and well shit.. it was pretty good, gamers were running though the city powering up their characters having a grand time. All was well in the world, now Epic has taken a stab at this formula with their first big shooter of the year.
Bulletstorm will come packed with the Multiplayer Beta for Gears of War 3, can is achieve the same success as the first Crackdown? If the demo is any indication this game is gonna be a huge bag of fun. It's one of those demos that gives you a true taste of what the game is about and then kicks takes it away telling you "the first taste is free, now you gotta pay". The demo kicks off with the weapon load out and giving you an idea of what is at your disposal. You always have your leash, which we will get into later. There is the Peacemaker Carbine which is your standard assault rifle with an alternate fire of obliterating fools and turning them to a pile of ash.
The weapon is the screamer, a high powered magnum which also shoots flares. This is ideal for head shots and shoving explodey things up the rectum (damn near killedum) of an unfortunate enemy. Finally there is the flailgun. Two grenades, attached via a chain, that hugs your target and then KABOOM they are in pieces. The alternate fire for this is a shredder type ammo that just slices through enemies.
If you plan to go through this game like any other shooter just shooting fools and moving to the next point then I'm sorry but you are not playing this game to it's true potential. This game is designed to have you kill with skill. What the hell does that mean?
Take a look at this pretty picture here, see all the numbers? That's right you get a score for each kill. Pump a dude full of lead till he falls, you get 10 points. Kick him in the face and launch a flare into his ass and send him to space? change that measly 10 to a nice smile worthy 125. The more creative you get with kills the more points, and the more points you get the more bragging rights you have online with your friends. The game gives you many things at your disposal to ramp up the violence. Spiked walls, exposed electrical wiring, the ability to boot some poor soul in the face, causing them to flail in the air in slow motion and give you the opportunity to tear them apart. Then there is the leash which you can use to either pull these fools towards you our slam them to the ground sending them and their buddies flying into the air for target practice. The video tutorial gives you a good idea on how you can squeeze the most points out of the demo before you play.
That is the heart and soul of the demo, give you the basic weapons, expose you to the essential features, and give you a taste of the break neck pace, then cut you off craving more. It convinced me wholeheartedly that Epic is putting a hell of an effort in making this more then just your Gears of War 3 beta disc. This game takes FPS back to the days of ridiculous weapons, over the top characters, harsh language, huge monster battles, and just utter chaos. This game is proving to be another great franchise from Epic and I am PUMPED for this title.
Still not convinced? FINE, check out this video, though be warned there is A LOT of harsh language.
